HyoSook Kim of Sejong City Council: "Voters' Interest and Political Participation Will Be Valued and Used for Legislative Activities"

First Sejong City Council Member to Establish a Supporters' Association

HyoSook Kim of Sejong City Council: "Voters' Interest and Political Participation Will Be Valued and Used for Legislative Activities" HyoSook Kim, First Vice Chairperson of Sejong City Council.

HyoSook Kim, a member of the Sejong City Council, has become the first local council member in Sejong to establish a political supporters' association in an effort to expand citizens' political participation, and has launched an active promotional campaign.

Following the amendment to the Political Funds Act that took effect in July last year, local metropolitan and basic council members are now allowed to set up supporters' associations. For local council members, metropolitan council members can raise up to 50 million won per year, while basic council members can raise up to 30 million won per year.

Kim, who currently serves as the First Vice Chairperson of the council, was the first among the 20 Sejong City Council members to recently complete the registration of a supporters' association with the Sejong Election Commission.

Kim stated, "After much deliberation, I decided to establish a supporters' association to realize a healthy and transparent youth politics. Although the process of registering, fundraising, and accounting for the association is not easy, I will do my utmost to ensure that the funds are used meaningfully for better political activities, drawing on my experience as a former accounting manager for a National Assembly member's supporters' association."

She went on to explain, "Through small-scale political donations from voters, I hope to see the growth of grassroots democracy and the spread of a participatory and communicative political culture." The funds raised can be used within the scope of political activities, including operating expenses and personnel costs for the supporters' association office, policy development expenses, and promoting legislative activities.
