Muan County in South Jeolla Province successfully held the opening ceremony for the Muan Mudflat Exploration Bridge, the longest wooden bridge in Korea, along with a walking event at the Muan Hwangto Mudflat Land area on September 13.
According to the county on September 15, the event was held in conjunction with the 11th Muan Hwangto Mudflat Festival, drawing participation from a wide range of residents, tourists, institutions, and social organizations. Together, they celebrated the opening of the mudflat exploration bridge, which has emerged as a new tourism resource.
The opening ceremony was attended by key guests, including Muan County Mayor Kim San and Muan County Council Chairman Lee Hosung, who commemorated the opening of the nation's longest wooden bridge. A variety of celebratory performances followed. The walking event covered a round-trip course of approximately 3 kilometers along the exploration bridge, allowing participants to fully experience the scenic mudflats of Muan. In particular, local clubs, walking groups, and family visitors participated in large numbers, making the event a realization of the vision for a "walkable city Muan."
Mayor Kim stated, "The Muan Mudflat Exploration Bridge will become a new landmark representing our ecological tourism resources," adding, "We will continue to create an environment where both residents and tourists can enjoy walking."
Meanwhile, the county plans to use the bridge opening as an opportunity to accelerate the development of ecological education and tourism programs, expand festivals, and boost the local economy by attracting more tourists.
