The Special Committee on Budget and Accounts of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Chairman Ryu Gijun, Democratic Party of Korea, Hwasun District 2) visited Hwasun Neungju Traditional Market on the 12th to engage in on-site communication aimed at revitalizing local commercial districts.
The meeting, presided over by Chairman Ryu Gijun and held at the merchants' association office, was attended by Kim Hyungseong, Director of the Small and Medium Venture Business Division of Jeonnam Province; Park Yonghee, Director of the Local Economy Division of Hwasun County; Moon Jeongsu, President of the Neungju Traditional Market Merchants Association; and about 30 merchants.
Chairman Ryu stated, "We organized this meeting to hear directly from merchants who are struggling due to the economic downturn and rising prices," emphasizing, "A traditional market is not just a place for commerce, but a space where the lives and communities of local residents are truly alive."
The attending merchants expressed concerns about structural challenges facing traditional markets, such as declining sales due to reduced foot traffic, aging facilities, and parking inconveniences. They requested swift action to foster markets linked with cultural tourism, provide financial support for small business owners, and modernize traditional market facilities.
Chairman Ryu pledged, "I will ensure that your opinions are faithfully reflected in the budget and will take concrete actions so that traditional markets can regain their vitality."
