After a missing persons report was filed, a woman in her twenties was found dead, and a male suspect in his fifties who was apprehended near the location where the body was abandoned has reportedly admitted to murder during police questioning.
The Yongin Eastern Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 15th that it had requested an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges of murder and abandonment of a corpse.
Mr. A is accused of assaulting and strangling to death Ms. B, a woman in her twenties who is a TikToker, in Incheon on the afternoon of the 11th. He then allegedly loaded the body into his car and drove along the west coast, moving from place to place, before arriving at a mountain in Muju County, North Jeolla Province, where he abandoned the body in a bushy area.
Previously, on the afternoon of the 12th at around 4 p.m., Ms. B's parents filed a missing persons report with the Yongin Eastern Police Station, stating that they had lost contact with their daughter. While tracking Ms. B's movements, the police confirmed that she had traveled from Incheon toward Muju in Mr. A's car. In cooperation with the North Jeolla Provincial Police Agency, the authorities found Mr. A at around 5 a.m. on the 13th at a location 50 to 100 meters away from where the body had been abandoned.
At the time, Mr. A claimed that he had parted ways with Ms. B after an argument. However, the police determined that he was not unrelated to Ms. B's disappearance, as he refused to show identification and attempted to flee. He was initially arrested on charges of obstructing official duties. After being transferred to the Yongin Eastern Police Station, Mr. A refused to make a statement for a period of time, but reportedly admitted to the crime on the afternoon of the previous day after continued police questioning, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Investigations revealed that around May, Mr. A approached Ms. B and offered to partner with her and invest, claiming that he was knowledgeable about the TikTok market and could help her increase her subscribers. However, disagreements over channel management led to conflict, and it is believed that the crime occurred following an argument during a video shoot in Incheon on the afternoon of the 11th.
The police are continuing to investigate the details of the incident, including requesting an autopsy of Ms. B's body from the National Forensic Service.
