Mungyeong City Branch Wins Overall Championship at National Senior Park Golf Tournament

Fierce Competition Among 900 Participants, Prestige of the Host City Highlighted
Emphasizing the Image of a Senior-Friendly and Healthy City

Mungyeong City in North Gyeongsang Province elevated the prestige of the host city by winning the overall championship at the 3rd Presidential National Senior Park Golf Tournament, which was held at the Park Golf Course along the Yeonggangcheon River from September 10 to 11.

This tournament was hosted by the Korea Senior Citizens Association Central Committee and organized by the Mungyeong City branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association and the Mungyeong City Park Golf Association, with support from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, North Gyeongsang Province, and Mungyeong City. More than 900 participants, including officials and athletes from 17 regional federations and city and county branches nationwide, competed and created an atmosphere of unity and celebration.


The competition was divided into men's and women's individual events and a presidents' division. In the men's individual event, Lee Kwondeok from the Daegu Federation claimed victory, while Park Bongja from the Gyeonggi Federation won the women's individual event. In the presidents' division, Jeon Seongtaek from the Hoengseong County branch in Gangwon Province took the top honor.


The Mungyeong City branch not only secured the overall championship but also produced several top finishers: Shin Kyungyeol (7th place) and Kim Hakju (10th place) in the men's individual event; Lee Boksun (5th place), Kwon Younghee (6th place), Eom Sunnan (8th place), and Lim Gyeongja (10th place) in the women's individual event, demonstrating their strong capabilities. This achievement is seen as the result of Mungyeong City's policies to expand park golf infrastructure and promote the leisure and health of senior citizens.


Park Kyungkyu, head of the Mungyeong City branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, said, "It is very meaningful to have successfully concluded the tournament," and added, "We will continue to do our best for the health of seniors and the development of the region."


Mungyeong City Mayor Shin Hyunkuk stated, "It is highly significant that the host city's branch won the overall championship at a national tournament held in Mungyeong, a city of sports and tourism," and pledged, "We will continue to work on creating an environment where seniors can lead vibrant lives."


The overall victory by the Mungyeong City branch carries meaning beyond mere results. It not only upheld the pride of the host city, but also set a precedent for connecting the health and vitality of seniors to urban competitiveness in an aging society.
