Seven Days at the Iksan Prison Set:
September 18-21 and 26-28
Iksan City in North Jeolla Province will host the 4th Iksan Horror Hologram Festival, offering spine-chilling fun on autumn nights.
According to the city on September 12, this unique festival combines cutting-edge hologram technology with horror content. It will be held in two sessions, from September 18 to 21 and again from September 26 to 28, for a total of seven days at the Iksan Prison Set.
Since its debut in 2022, the festival has seen a steady increase in visitors, attracting about 13,000 people in 2022, 25,000 in 2023, and 35,000 last year, boosting its nationwide recognition. This year, more than 30,000 attendees are expected once again.
The theme for this year is "Mystery Lab: The Experiment That Never Ends." A secret experiment, which was halted while seeking coexistence between artificial intelligence and humans, is revived at the prison set after sunset. Visitors will be able to experience the conclusion of the experiment firsthand through an immersive horror experience.
The festival will kick off with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on September 18 at the main stage. Distinguished guests will attend to offer congratulatory remarks, and a celebratory horror dance performance and ceremony will heighten the atmosphere on site.
During the event, a "Horror Media Facade" will be projected four times daily on the exterior walls of the main prison building, vividly bringing the festival's story to life. Other main programs include the "Horror Cosplay Contest," held separately for adults and teenagers, and the "Breaking Dawn" game, which can be enjoyed by large groups.
Additionally, a variety of daily performances are planned, such as the "Ghost Runway" fashion show featuring staff in cosplay makeup, and the "Horror Flash Mob Challenge" presented by professional performance teams.
Other ongoing activities include the "Horror Character Show," which combines surprise performances and photo opportunities, as well as hands-on programs like the Infection Mark Lab (horror face painting), Experiment Subject Tag Making (badge creation), and horror-themed VR games. The "Hologram B2B Hall," featuring leading hologram companies from Iksan, will showcase the latest technology and products, providing a platform for industry networking.
This year, a new "Data Coupon" system has been introduced. Data coupons are required to participate in the main hologram horror experience and can be obtained on site through various side events and activities. Those who register in advance will receive five coupons beforehand.
To ensure the safety and convenience of visitors, both advance and on-site registration will be available, and routes will be dispersed to prevent congestion. Parking at the venue will be strictly prohibited, but two shuttle bus routes will operate from 5:00 p.m. to 10:20 p.m. Seniors and people with disabilities can use designated parking areas near the venue by making advance inquiries. Detailed information is available on the official website, and advance registration is open until the last day of the event.
Mayor Jung Heon-yul stated, "This year's festival will feature enhanced storytelling and upgraded experiential content based on a new universe. The cutting-edge hologram technology and diverse participation programs will create unforgettable memories on autumn nights."
Meanwhile, the 4th Iksan Horror Hologram Festival is being held as part of the "Hologram Technology Commercialization Demonstration Support Project," supported by Iksan City, the Ministry of Science and ICT, North Jeolla Province, and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, and organized by the Jeonbuk Content Convergence Agency.
