'2025 Korea Confucian Culture Festival' Opens in Nonsan, South Chungcheong

A large-scale cultural festival that blends Confucianism and K-culture will be held in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, home to key Giho Confucian heritage sites such as Donamseowon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Myeongjaegotaek.

The South Chungcheong Provincial Government and Nonsan City announced on the 12th that the "2025 Korea Confucian Culture Festival" will take place for three days until the 14th at the Korea Confucian Culture Promotion Institute under the theme "K-Confucianism: Blossoming with Excitement and Style."

During the festival, a variety of traditional experiences and modern programs will be offered, including the Confucian Excitement Yard, Eulmuni Madang Play, a children's writing and drawing contest, International Day of Confucian Culture Exchange, K-Rhythm Hip Pungnyu Concert, Confucian English Speech Contest, and a youth Hanstyle Dance Competition.

At the forum held prior to the opening ceremony, participants explored the modern value and role of hyanggyo (local Confucian academies) under the theme "Inheritance and Future of Hyanggyo Traditions."

Governor Kim stated, "Confucianism played a significant role in Korea's modernization and industrialization," adding, "From South Chungcheong, it will once again reach out to the world and be inherited as a spiritual legacy that leads the global community."

The provincial government aims to establish the Chungcheong Confucian Cultural Sphere, alongside the Baekje Cultural Sphere, as the two core identities of the region, and plans to revitalize culture, tourism, and the local economy through policies such as large-scale tourism development projects.
