Gwangju Nam-gu Council Passes Committee Review of "Resident-Participatory Renewable Energy Transition" Ordinance Bill

Hwang Kyunga: "Expecting Expansion of Eco-Friendly Energy Supply"

Gwangju Nam-gu Council Passes Committee Review of "Resident-Participatory Renewable Energy Transition" Ordinance Bill Hwang Kyunga, Gwangju Namgu Councilor.

In Gwangju Nam-gu, a legal foundation will be established to enable residents to participate in renewable energy transition projects centered around local communities.

The Gwangju Nam-gu Council announced on the 12th that the “Full Amendment Ordinance Bill for the Promotion of Renewable Energy Supply in Nam-gu,” sponsored by Councilor Hwang Kyunga during the 314th temporary session, has passed the review of the Planning and General Affairs Committee.

Recently, the need for resident-participatory energy transition centered on local communities has been highlighted, focusing on shifting to eco-friendly and safe energy sources to increase energy self-sufficiency. In response, this ordinance bill was proposed to define the necessary provisions for supporting resident-participatory energy transition, allowing residents to enjoy eco-friendly and safe energy and improve their quality of life, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.

The main contents include: ▲ changing the title of the ordinance ▲ establishing a master plan and supporting projects ▲ providing a legal basis for promoting the creation of pilot villages for resident-participatory energy transition projects centered on local communities ▲ establishing and operating a renewable energy review committee ▲ promoting the installation of renewable energy systems in public buildings ▲ and supporting subsidies.

Councilor Hwang emphasized, “With this ordinance revision, we expect to vitalize renewable energy transition policies with resident participation and expand the supply of eco-friendly energy. I will continue to do my best to develop various policies together with residents.”

Meanwhile, the revised ordinance bill is scheduled to be reviewed and voted on at the second plenary session of the 314th temporary session to be held on the 16th.
