At the awards ceremony held on the 11th at the Chuncheon Cheorwon Hwacheon Yanggu Livestock Cooperative Auction Market, Hongcheon County received the top prize in the comprehensive city/county evaluation, while the Hongcheon Livestock Cooperative was awarded the encouragement prize in the comprehensive livestock cooperative evaluation.
This year's competition featured a fierce contest among 122 Hanwoo cattle in two categories from a total of 18 cities and counties in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. In July, Hongcheon County won both the top and excellence prizes in the premium beef category, as well as the top and excellence prizes in the Hanwoo shipment performance category. On September 11 (Thursday), during the cow evaluation event covering five categories, a calf from Hongcheon County took the top prize in the calf category, once again demonstrating the excellence of Hongcheon Hanwoo.
Shin Youngjae, the governor of Hongcheon County, stated, "Despite the difficult times for Hanwoo farmers, I believe this award is the result of their unwavering interest and efforts in improving their herds. Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen the competitiveness of our livestock farms so that we can produce the best Hanwoo beef in Korea."
Meanwhile, the Gangwon Livestock Competition is a traditional event that determines the best Hanwoo in the province by comprehensively evaluating both premium beef and cow competitions. Hongcheon County previously won the encouragement prize in 2023, the excellence prize in 2024, and this year achieved the remarkable feat of winning the top prize.
