SG established its local subsidiary, SG Ukraine, in December 2023. Since then, it has signed asphalt concrete supply contracts with local companies DS Prom and Eurobud Plus, as well as a slag supply contract with Metinvest, Ukraine's largest steel company, thereby laying the groundwork for its entry into the Ukrainian market.

In December last year, SG completed the patent registration for Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete in Ukraine and reached an agreement with the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure for this test paving. In May this year, the product passed the laboratory sample test conducted by the National Road Development Research Institute under the Ministry of Infrastructure, receiving an official test certificate. Through these steps, SG secured technological excellence and met all legal and technical requirements for executing the test paving.

Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete is a premium asphalt concrete raw material developed by SG, which holds construction and disaster safety new technology certifications in Korea. Instead of using natural aggregates, it utilizes steel slag, a byproduct from steel mills, resulting in cost savings, high strength, low noise, reduced fine dust, and lower carbon emissions, offering significant eco-friendly benefits.

The product aligns with the Ukrainian government's policy direction, which demands economic efficiency, environmental sustainability, and durability in the postwar reconstruction process. As a traditional steel powerhouse, Ukraine produces large volumes of slag at its steel mills. Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete is expected to help solve national challenges by utilizing decades of accumulated slag as a substitute for natural aggregates.

The test paving event was attended by Serhiy Sukhomlyn, Head of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine; Artem Bezhukhly, Director of the National Infrastructure Research Institute; Mykhailo Kalyshnyk, Governor of Kyiv Oblast; Dmytro Mushiyenko, CEO of DS Prom; Andriy Nikolaienko, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament, along with other Ukrainian government officials; Andriy Nazarenko, CEO of SG Ukraine; Kim Yonghyun, Head of POSCO International Ukraine; and Seo Ojin, President of SG.

The attendees inspected the paved road section and confirmed the potential for broader application of Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete technology in Ukraine. After the site visit, they commented, "SG's technology will accelerate the reconstruction of Ukrainian roads and raise the quality standards of road infrastructure."

Building on the success of this test paving, SG will begin road reconstruction in Dnipro, one of Ukraine's largest cities. The company also plans to expand the application of Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete to projects managed by the State Agency for Restoration and key road sites across Ukraine.

An SG representative stated, "This test paving in Ukraine is not just a construction project, but a moment where our efforts to enter the global market are bearing fruit. We plan to reconstruct roads throughout Ukraine using Eco Steel Asphalt Concrete."

The representative added, "We will actively leverage our experience in Ukraine for additional market entries in countries such as India and Saudi Arabia, promote the excellence of K-ROAD, and strive to become a global leader in eco-friendly infrastructure."
