Inspection of 200 Food Establishments Near Multi-Use Facilities
Full-Scale Efforts to Prevent Food Poisoning Ahead of International Events
Gwangju City announced on September 12 that it will conduct a joint public-private hygiene inspection of 200 food service establishments located near multi-use facilities over a five-day period from September 15 to 19, in response to the autumn outing season.
This inspection has been organized to support the successful hosting of major international events such as the "Gwangju 2025 World Archery Championships (Para Archery)" and the "Gwangju Design Biennale," which are being held in conjunction with the "Visit Gwangju Year." The goal is to prevent food safety incidents such as food poisoning in advance and to provide a safe and hygienic dining environment for both domestic and international tourists as well as local citizens.
The hygiene inspection will be carried out by a joint team consisting of the city and the five district hygiene departments, as well as consumer food hygiene monitors. A total of five inspection teams, comprising 20 people, will conduct unannounced inspections.
The inspection will cover: ▲ whether expired food products are being stored or used ▲ cleanliness management of kitchens and cooking utensils ▲ compliance with refrigeration and freezing storage temperatures ▲ and overall hygiene management, including the reuse of food.
In particular, the city plans to focus inspections on restaurants and dessert cafes located near parks, sports facilities, campgrounds, and transportation facilities that are frequently visited by tourists, in order to proactively eliminate potential hazards.
Bae Kang-sook, Director of the Health and Hygiene Division, stated, "We will conduct thorough hygiene inspections so that both domestic and international tourists, as well as citizens, can safely enjoy the flavors of Gwangju," adding, "We will do our utmost to create a safe and trustworthy dining environment."
