Incheon City will increase the number of smart senior centers to 200 this year.

On September 12, the city announced that it will expand the establishment of the "Incheon-style Smart Senior Center" to create a tailored digital welfare environment that supports healthy and vibrant lives for seniors.

The Incheon-style Smart Senior Center is a project selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's 2024 public contest. Incheon City established 100 smart senior centers last year and conducted a pilot operation from January to June this year. In the second half of the year, the city plans to add 100 more centers, bringing the total to 200 smart senior centers in operation.

The Incheon-style Smart Senior Center provides customized services for seniors using advanced technologies such as a two-way video system, smart daily care, and smart healthcare.

Through the two-way video system, a variety of non-face-to-face health and leisure programs are offered, including health exercises, singing classes, and voice phishing prevention education. Smart healthcare measures basic health information and enables continuous health management, while smart daily care combines kiosk training necessary for daily life with a walking machine function that provides virtual walking trails via video, helping to enhance cognitive abilities and improve physical fitness.

The city expects to achieve results such as revitalizing non-face-to-face health and leisure programs, strengthening community care functions, and bridging the digital divide among the elderly by creating a tailored digital welfare environment for seniors.

Park Hyunjung, Director of the Women and Family Bureau of Incheon City, said, "We plan to continuously increase the number of smart senior centers to respond to the growing elderly population and changes in the social environment," adding, "We will create digitally friendly spaces in senior centers to provide customized services for seniors."
