President Lee Jaemyung held his first phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron since taking office on September 11, according to the presidential office.

Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, stated in a written briefing that "President Macron congratulated President Lee on his inauguration and expressed hope that the launch of Korea's new administration would serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries."


The two leaders also expressed hope to meet in person on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss bilateral relations and international issues. Spokesperson Kang explained, "President Lee expressed his gratitude for President Macron's congratulations on his inauguration and assessed that trade and investment between the two countries continue to expand." She added, "He also expressed hope to realize the potential for cooperation in strategic industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), space, and defense."


The two leaders exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula, regional developments, and issues related to the United Nations Security Council. They agreed to maintain close communication to ensure that next year's 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations serves as an opportunity to elevate bilateral ties to a 'comprehensive partnership for the 21st century.'
