Kang Yujeong, Presidential Office Spokesperson, Briefs on September 11
The Presidential Office expressed "deep regret" on September 11 regarding the failure to adopt the hearing reports for the heads of the Financial Services Commission and the Fair Trade Commission.
Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated during a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the same day, "Refusing to adopt and submit the hearing reports undermines the spirit of cooperation achieved through the meeting between President Lee Jaemyung and the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties."
Spokesperson Kang emphasized, "Despite the government repeatedly requesting the adoption and submission of the reports for Lee Eokwon, nominee for Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, and Joo Byeonggi, nominee for Chairman of the Fair Trade Commission, out of concern for a governmental vacuum after the deadline for submission passed, these requests have been rejected." She added, "Both nominees have been thoroughly vetted for their qualifications and capabilities in their respective fields through the hearings."
On September 10, President Lee requested the hearing reports again for the three ministerial nominees for the Ministry of Education, the Financial Services Commission, and the Fair Trade Commission. The hearing report for Choi Gyojin, nominee for Minister of Education, was adopted on September 11, led by the ruling party.
