Busan Port Authority and SK Innovation Sign Agreement to Achieve RE100 at Busan Port

Cooperation for Achieving Carbon Neutrality at Busan Port
Including Installation and Supply of Renewable Energy Generation Facilities

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Sanggeun Song) signed the "RE100 Business Agreement for Achieving Carbon Neutrality at Busan Port" with SK Innovation on September 9 in the medium-sized conference room on the 4th floor of the BPA headquarters.

Through this agreement, the two companies plan to cooperate to achieve carbon neutrality at Busan Port by installing renewable energy generation facilities on idle land within the port and supplying renewable energy through power purchase agreements (PPA).

The need to introduce renewable energy at Busan Port is increasing due to the government's strategy to establish global hub ports and the mandatory reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by port operators. However, space for installing renewable energy generation facilities within the terminals is limited, making external procurement unavoidable.

Accordingly, BPA and SK Innovation have agreed to cooperate on promoting solar power projects utilizing idle port land, such as the Nae Truck House (rest area for cargo trucks).

BPA will be responsible for administrative support, including securing land and obtaining permits, while SK Innovation will handle the development, operation, and maintenance of the power generation project.

Through this agreement, Busan Port is expected not only to proactively respond to the government's renewable energy expansion policy but also to support terminal operators in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to the realization of RE100 at the port.

BPA President Sanggeun Song stated, "It is meaningful to establish a cooperative system with SK Innovation, a leading energy company, to achieve RE100 at Busan Port," and added, "We will continue our efforts to transform Busan Port into an eco-friendly, energy-independent port in line with the new government's energy transition policy."
