Yeoncheon County in Gyeonggi Province announced on September 10 that it will hold the lighting ceremony for the 'Yeoncheon Light Festival' at the Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site on September 13, marking the start of the commemorative event 'The Light of Liberation, Illuminating Yeoncheon's Tomorrow' in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Korea's Liberation.
This event is designed to shed new light on Yeoncheon's history and culture and provide a festive space where local residents and tourists can come together and enjoy themselves.
On the first day of the festival, September 13, the '1st Yeoncheon Love National Children's Drawing Contest' will be held at the Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site starting at 10 a.m. The contest, originally scheduled for September 6, was postponed due to heavy rain. In addition to those who previously registered, any children of kindergarten or elementary school age who visit the site may freely participate.
From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the same day, the '2025 Yeoncheon Love Family Run,' organized by the Yeoncheon County Sports Association, will take place throughout the event venue. A variety of recreational programs, including an independent race OX quiz and a Taegeukgi color run, will be available for both online registrants and on-site participants to enjoy together.
Also on September 13, starting at 4 p.m., the '1st Yeoncheon Busking Competition' will be held. Twenty busking teams, selected through document and video screening, will perform daily in groups of four from September 13 to 17 on a special stage at the Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site.
The highlight of Saturday, the 'Yeoncheon Light Festival' lighting ceremony, will take place at 7 p.m. With the theme of an autumn journey in Yeoncheon, the event will feature scenic lighting that combines the county’s unique image and sophistication, transforming the Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site into a magical space of light.
Singer Jung Dongha will give a celebratory performance during the lighting ceremony, promising visitors an unforgettable experience. The scenic lighting displays will remain on exhibit at the Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site for two weeks following the ceremony.
In addition, from September 14 to 18, the 'Paleolithic Outdoor Cinema' will operate every night from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Films such as 'Malmoi,' which centers on the theme of liberation, and 'Puss in Boots,' a favorite among children, will be screened alternately on a special outdoor screen at the Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site, offering families a unique and memorable experience.
On September 20, the final round of the '1st Yeoncheon National Busking Competition' will take place, alongside the '57th Yeoncheon County Residents' Day Cultural Event' featuring singer Insooni, bringing the festival to a grand finale.
A Yeoncheon County official stated, "This Yeoncheon Light Festival, organized for the 80th anniversary of Liberation, will be a special cultural event connecting the past, present, and future. We hope all residents and visitors will participate and create unforgettable memories together."
