Cheorwon County Anticipates Successful International Marathon
Promoting Peace and Harmony

Cheorwon County in Gangwon Province announced on September 10 that it will host the 22nd Cheorwon DMZ International Peace Marathon on September 21.

This event is a meaningful occasion that delivers a message of peace and harmony to the world, and it is expected to draw significant attention from local residents as well as marathon enthusiasts from both Korea and abroad.

Originally, registration was scheduled to close on a first-come, first-served basis by July, but due to enthusiastic interest from participants-just as last year-over 1,000 more people signed up compared to 2024, bringing the total to around 7,500. As a result, registration closed early in early June.

Now in its second year as a selected project supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the event will feature enhanced safety facilities, including additional shower tunnels, an ice cream zone, and running mates composed of active firefighters, to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all participants.

This marathon, which takes runners through the beautiful natural scenery of Cheorwon and along a course symbolizing peace, offers a variety of categories, including a full marathon (42.195 km), a half marathon (21.0975 km), and a 10 km course. Participants will have the opportunity to run together in Cheorwon, a land of peace, reflecting on the values of health and harmony.

Cheorwon County Governor Lee Hyunjong stated, "The International Peace Marathon, now in its 22nd year, has established itself as an important event that spreads the message of peace to the world and strengthens unity within the local community. I hope many people will join and have a meaningful time experiencing the peace and beauty of Cheorwon firsthand."
