The Japan Research Center of Dongseo University and the Seto Forum will jointly host the "60th Anniversary of Korea-Japan Normalization of Diplomatic Relations International Symposium" at 1:00 p.m. on September 12 at the Convention Hall of Dongseo University’s Centum Campus.
This symposium, under the theme "Beyond Borders, Toward a Sustainable Future," aims to explore directions for cooperation between Korea and Japan.
The event will feature congratulatory remarks from Sung Heeyeop, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation of Busan, and Koichi Mizushima, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Korea. Former National Assembly Speaker Chung Ui-hwa will deliver the keynote address, presenting a future vision for bilateral cooperation.
Of particular note, a roundtable featuring four former Korean ambassadors to Japan-Shin Kaksoo, Nam Gwanpyo, Yoon Deokmin, and Park Chulhee-will be held, drawing significant attention.
Additionally, the symposium will include a session on Korea-U.S.-Japan relations in the Trump era, a business leaders’ roundtable with economic figures, and a media roundtable with journalists from both countries, ensuring a wide-ranging discussion.
Jang Jeguk, President of Dongseo University and Chairman of the Seto Forum, stated, "Over the past 60 years, Korea-Japan relations have experienced periods of conflict and rupture, but have also accumulated assets of trust through political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges. For the next 60 years, we must design a sustainable future together, going beyond borders and drawing lessons from the past."
The Seto Forum, established in 2013, is a Korea-Japan academic and cultural exchange platform that contributes to bilateral cooperation and peace and prosperity in East Asia through regular forums and international symposiums, as well as active private exchanges.
The Japan Research Center at Dongseo University, established in 2004, operates various Korea-Japan exchange platforms such as the Busan-Fukuoka Forum, and contributes to mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries through academic, cultural, and youth exchanges.
This symposium is expected to serve as a venue where figures from academia, politics, business, and the media gather to discuss practical cooperation measures, opening a new chapter for the next 60 years of Korea-Japan relations and contributing to peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia.
