When Complained, Payment Was Immediately Canceled Without Any Verification
As the summer peak season continues, controversies over price gouging at tourist destinations persist. In this context, an account has surfaced online about a customer who was overcharged for king crab at a direct sales market in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, but managed to cancel the payment after realizing the issue.
On September 8, a post titled "Almost Got Scammed at a King Crab Sashimi Direct Sales Market in Sokcho" was uploaded to an online community. The author attached receipts and various photos, warning others to be cautious when visiting Sokcho.
The author explained that over the weekend, they visited a king crab sashimi direct sales shop inside Sokcho Jungang Market with their parents. They told the staff they wanted to eat sashimi, but were told that, since it was a weekend evening, they needed to order king crab. Wanting to treat their parents to something nice, they decided to dine at the restaurant.

After finishing the meal, the receipt showed a total of 364,000 won. The author realized that the actual amount they had ordered was only 240,000 won. Noticing a significant discrepancy, the author went to the counter and asked to check the bill. A woman, presumed to be the owner, responded without even looking at the bill, saying, "Did I make a mistake with the calculation?" and offered to process the payment again.
The author commented, "It's disheartening that, even as efforts are being made to revitalize traditional markets, there are still shops inside the market engaging in scams like this. I'm sharing this because I think there are many people who fall victim without realizing it."
With recent controversies surrounding inflated prices at restaurants in tourist destinations, online users expressed their sympathy. Comments included, "I've never had a good experience at a sashimi restaurant in a tourist spot," and "They beg people to travel domestically instead of going abroad, but when crowds actually come, this is how they behave."
