89% of Gyeonggi Residents Say "Climate Crisis Is Serious"... Positive Assessment of Gyeonggi's Climate Policies

Nine out of ten Gyeonggi Province residents perceive the climate crisis as a serious social issue and believe that active responses from the government and local authorities are necessary.

According to a public opinion survey conducted by Gyeonggi Province from August 7 to August 11, targeting 2,000 residents aged 18 and older, 89% of respondents stated that the climate crisis is "serious." Among them, 56% recognized it as "very serious."


Regarding the need for proactive responses to the climate crisis at the central and local government levels, 90% expressed agreement, with 65% emphasizing that it is "very necessary."


The evaluation of climate policies promoted by Gyeonggi Province over the past three years was "positive." More than half of the residents, 57%, gave a positive assessment, while only 30% expressed a negative view. Gyeonggi Province regards the climate crisis not merely as an environmental issue but as an economic issue and a growth strategy for a sustainable future, and is implementing policies from a "climate economy" perspective.

Among the key policies, "Climate Action Opportunity Income" received the highest support at 80%. This was followed by Gyeonggi RE100 (78%), Climate Insurance (74%), Climate Fund (72%), and Climate Satellite (67%).


As for policies that residents wish to see expanded nationwide, Gyeonggi RE100 ranked first at 26%. This was followed by Climate Action Opportunity Income (21%), Climate Insurance (14%), Climate Fund (12%), and Climate Satellite (9%).


Half of the respondents also stated that Gyeonggi Province's climate policies are differentiated from those of the central government or other local governments.


Previously, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon stated at a recent Clean Air International Forum, "Gyeonggi Province has implemented the nation's first climate policies, such as public sector RE100, Climate Action Opportunity Income, and Climate Insurance," adding, "Going forward, we will continue to share the experiences and data from Gyeonggi Province's leading policies, such as Climate Satellite and Climate Fund, with the central government and the international community, and lead global climate action."
