"Sold-Out Man" Bae Sangmoon Aims for Big Comeback as a Recommended Player

Aiming for a Historic Third Victory at the Shinhan Donghae Open
First Tournament Since Marriage Marks a New Beginning
Focusing on Domestic Events This Year, Hoping for a Turning Point

Bae Sangmoon dreams of making a comeback in South Korea.

He will participate as a recommended player in the 41st Shinhan Donghae Open (total prize money: 1.5 billion won), held for four days from September 11 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea (par 72) in Incheon. Regarded as a major event on the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Tour, the Shinhan Donghae Open is jointly organized by the KPGA Tour, the Asian Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO). Once again, many players from the Asian Tour and JGTO will compete in this tournament.

Bae Sangmoon is a proven talent who has collected championship trophies in South Korea, Japan, and the United States. Since turning professional in 2005, he has won nine times on the KPGA Tour, three times on the JGTO, and twice on the PGA Tour. His aggressive and dynamic style of play has earned him a devoted fan base.

However, after enlisting in the military in 2015 and completing his service, he has struggled to regain his previous form. He no longer holds a PGA Tour card. This season, he entered two PGA Tour events but missed the cut in both. His plan for this year is to compete in domestic tournaments and aim for a return to the PGA Tour.

Bae Sangmoon has a special connection to this tournament. He achieved back-to-back victories at the Shinhan Donghae Open in 2013 and 2014. This year, as a recommended player, he is aiming to become the first in tournament history to win three times. He recently got married, becoming a "taken man," and will play in his first tournament since the wedding with a renewed mindset.
