Emphasis on Responding to New Government Restructuring and Additional Ministry Relocations
Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong, has ordered the establishment of a strategic system capable of responding closely to the Lee Jaemyung administration's organizational restructuring plan, as well as countermeasures to address the gap created by the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
At an executive meeting held on September 9, Mayor Choi emphasized, "With the new government restructuring, each ministry is facing both major and minor changes. For Sejong, where government ministries are located and where we aim to attract additional ministries in the future, this is an extremely important issue."
Recently, the National Assembly and the government announced a new organizational restructuring plan, which includes splitting the Ministry of Economy and Finance into the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Planning and Budget Office under the Prime Minister, abolishing the Prosecutors' Office and establishing the Public Prosecution Service and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency, as well as reorganizing certain ministries such as the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Mayor Choi stated, "There may also be changes to the location of ministries currently based in the Seoul metropolitan area. From our city's perspective, as we strive to complete the administrative capital, we must thoroughly monitor which ministries are being reorganized and how, so as not to miss the flow of this restructuring."
He also urged thorough preparation for the possible relocation of ministries currently based in Seoul, such as the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Ministry of Justice, to Sejong, as such moves are currently being discussed.
He said, "Other ministries must relocate to Sejong to fill the vacancy left by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. In such cases, we must mobilize all administrative resources to ensure that the relocation proceeds as quickly as possible."
He also requested that each department meticulously carry out their work to ensure that Sejong's pending issues and major projects reflected in next year's government budget proposal proceed smoothly.
Mayor Choi instructed, "As the 2025 Sejong Hangeul Festival will feature a variety of programs, strengthen promotional efforts by age group so that many citizens and visitors can enjoy it." The festival, to be held from October 9 to 11, will coincide with Hangeul Day and will include diverse programs at Sejong Lake Park and other venues, with the aim of ensuring its successful operation.
