Lawmakers Decide to Resolve Sexual Misconduct Scandal
Final Appointment Expected at Executive Committee on the 11th

On September 9, members of the Party for National Innovation decided to recommend Cho Kuk, head of the party's Innovation Policy Research Institute, as the chairperson of the emergency committee in order to resolve the internal turmoil caused by the sexual misconduct scandal.

Seo Wangjin, floor leader of the party, met with reporters after a closed-door general assembly of lawmakers that day and said, "A majority of lawmakers have agreed to recommend Director Cho as the emergency committee chairperson to the party executive committee." Since the leadership resigned en masse on September 7, the party's lawmakers had held three general assemblies up to the morning of this day but had failed to reach a conclusion on the appointment of the emergency committee chairperson. However, during an additional assembly in the afternoon, consensus was reached to recommend Director Cho.

Seo explained, "There were differing opinions, but the majority felt that Director Cho, as a key leader of the party, should take responsibility and lead the party through this difficult time, which is his fundamental role."

In an official statement, the Party for National Innovation declared, "The emergency committee will unite internal and external capabilities to restore trust and achieve innovation," and added, "We will return to the founding spirit and start anew."

Accordingly, it is expected that Director Cho will be formally appointed as the emergency committee chairperson at the party executive committee meeting on September 11.

Regarding support for the victim, Seo stated, "Once the emergency committee is formed, we will meet with the victim to offer comfort and support, and discuss follow-up measures to facilitate their return to the party." On the schedule for the future national convention, he explained, "Once the emergency committee is established, a new decision-making structure will be in place, and we will be able to discuss it then."
