Promoting Digital Transformation with SDV Integration
On September 9, Hyundai Rotem announced that it will collaborate with Wind River, a U.S.-based software development company, to establish a railway software development environment utilizing the cloud-based platform 'WRSD (Wind River Studio Developer)'.
WRSD is a state-of-the-art platform that provides a virtualized development environment, enabling increased productivity and quality while shortening the development period. Through this platform, continuous work from the design stage to testing, verification, and deployment can be performed quickly and repeatedly. In addition, developers can participate simultaneously in the cloud environment and work on multiple projects in parallel.
With this collaboration, Hyundai Rotem plans to apply the concept of Software Defined Vehicle (SDV), which shifts vehicle functions from hardware to a software-centric approach, to the development of railway vehicles as well. The company expects this to enhance design efficiency and delivery capabilities.
The company intends to fully utilize the new development environment starting next year for key technologies, including the domestically developed Korean Train Control System (KTCS), train control and monitoring systems, integrated broadcasting systems, propulsion devices, auxiliary power units, and battery systems.
A Hyundai Rotem representative stated, "We will be able to provide advanced service capabilities throughout the entire lifecycle of railway vehicles, from design to verification and maintenance," adding, "We will continue to expand SDV technology to respond quickly and flexibly to customer demands."
