This agreement was promoted to utilize idle space at Jipyeong Station to address gaps in child care services in the eastern region, promote balanced regional development, and encourage population inflow. In particular, it is significant in that it aims to establish a sustainable child care infrastructure through cooperation between public institutions.
According to the agreement, the 'Kids Rail Yangpyeong County Public Local Children's Center' will be established at the Jipyeong Station Plaza, 334-7 Songhyeon-ri, Jipyeong-myeon, with a total floor area of 200 square meters and a capacity of 30 children. The facility will provide a variety of child services, including after-school care, learning support, and emotional development programs.
The entire construction cost will be covered by the Korea National Railway Corporation, while Yangpyeong County will be responsible for operation and management support. The center is scheduled to open in January 2029.
Governor Jin Jeon of Yangpyeong County stated, "This project is highly meaningful in that it addresses gaps in local child care and creates an environment where families can feel secure," adding, "We will continue to cooperate with various institutions to make Yangpyeong a child-friendly city."
Myungseok Lee, Head of the Metropolitan Headquarters of the Korea National Railway Corporation, said, "It is a meaningful project to transform idle spaces owned by the corporation into spaces needed by the local community," and added, "We will continue to take the lead in realizing social value by utilizing public assets."
Meanwhile, since 2025, Yangpyeong County has been designating and operating hub-type child care centers to provide emergency and temporary care services, strengthening local child care support.
