Yeongju Citizen Sports Festival Opens on the 12th with Over 2,500 Participants

Yeongju City, North Gyeongsang Province, will host the 46th Yeongju Citizen Sports Festival at Yeongju Citizen Stadium at 9 a.m. on September 12.

This year’s event will bring together around 2,500 athletes and officials from 19 towns and townships, 29 schools, and 8 workplaces and organizations, who will compete and showcase their skills. The opening ceremony will mark the official start of the festival, beginning with the athletes’ parade and the lighting of the torch.

The competition will feature 17 events, spanning ball games, traditional sports, and recreational sports, including track and field, Ssireum wrestling, volleyball, Jokgu, and futsal. The festival will also include unique events such as jump rope and hula hoop relay races, and running while carrying weights, adding to the excitement.

On the day of the event, vehicle access to the Citizen Stadium will be completely restricted, and spectators are required to use the temporary parking lot at Seocheon riverside. Yeongju City has announced that it will take every measure to ensure smooth traffic control and on-site operations.

A Yeongju City official stated, "We hope this will be a festival of recreational sports that everyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy," adding, "We will make thorough preparations to ensure the event is held safely."
