Pukyong National University Marine Bionics Convergence Technology Center Selected for Five Individual Basic Research and Academic Support Projects by the National Research Foundation

The Marine Bionics Convergence Technology Center at Pukyong National University (Director: Jung Wongyo) has once again demonstrated its research competitiveness as a university-focused research institute designated by the Ministry of Education in the fields of science and engineering.

The center announced on September 9 that it was simultaneously selected for five new projects in the 2025 Individual Basic Research Program and Academic Research Support Program, as announced by the National Research Foundation of Korea.

For the Individual Basic Research (Mid-Career Research and Creative Research) project, researcher Sechang Kim was selected. He plans to conduct research on extracting and characterizing biomaterials from hagfish by-products to develop wound dressings for wound healing.

In addition, Dongju Park, a doctoral candidate, along with Myungji Kang and Hwarang Shin, both doctoral students in the Department of Fourth Industrial Convergence Bionics Engineering, were selected for the doctoral student research encouragement grant program. Jihye Cho, a master's student, was selected for the master's student research encouragement grant program.

The Mid-Career Research project under the Individual Basic Research Program is a support program aimed at enhancing the academic capabilities of mid-career researchers and promoting creative research. The research encouragement grant program for master's and doctoral students supports the next generation of researchers by providing research funding so they can pursue projects based on innovative ideas.

Building on these achievements, the center will embark on full-scale creative and challenging research in the marine bio and biomedical fields for one to three years starting in September.
