Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province held the opening ceremony for the Youth Shelter "Darak" on September 5 and officially began its operations.

According to the city on September 8, more than 80 people attended the event, including Deputy Mayor Cho Seokhoon, who is serving as acting mayor, provincial and city council members, members of the Mokpo City Youth Policy Committee, and local residents, to celebrate the launch of this new space for young people.

The opening ceremony began with a performance by a male vocal trio, followed by a progress report on the project, an award ceremony for those who contributed to youth policy, a ribbon-cutting, commemorative photos, and a tour of the facility.

The Youth Shelter "Darak" is a space where young people can freely communicate and relax. The first floor features a cafe space supporting youth entrepreneurship, while the second floor consists of a book cafe and meeting rooms, enabling a variety of community activities such as reading, meetings, and small group gatherings. It is expected to go beyond simply being a shelter and become a hub for exchange, contributing to the self-development and capacity building of young people.

The facility is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and any young person is welcome to use it freely.

A Mokpo City official stated, "We hope that this space will encourage young people to actively interact, communicate freely, and take the lead in various activities throughout the region," adding, "We will continue to expand opportunities for exchange and participation so that young people can engage and grow independently."
