Korean National Police Agency Dispatches Joint Investigation Team for "Japanese Lawyer Impersonation Terror Threat Case"

The National Office of Investigation of the Korean National Police Agency announced on September 9 that it will dispatch a joint investigation team to the Japanese National Police Agency in response to the "Japanese Lawyer Impersonation Terror Threat Case."

This case began in August 2023, when an email was sent using the name of an actual Japanese lawyer, Karasawa Takahiro, threatening that explosives had been planted at major facilities in Korea. Up until last month, a total of 51 threat messages?19 via email and 32 via fax?were sent.


The delegation consists of five members, including the Director of Cyber Investigation Review at the Korean National Police Agency as the head, the Chief of the Cyber Investigation Unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency who is directly investigating the case, and the responsible investigative team. They plan to discuss practical cooperation measures with the Japanese National Police Agency from September 10 to 12.


An official from the Korean National Police Agency stated, "We will resolve this terror threat case, which has caused social unrest, as quickly as possible so that the public can return to their peaceful daily lives."
