The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall announced on September 8 that it will host the special exhibition "Taegeukgi, Promise in the Wind" in the first-floor exhibition hall until November 16. The exhibition has been organized to honor the significance of the 80th anniversary of Liberation and to pay tribute to the noble spirit of independence activists.

The special exhibition will tour major cities across the country, including Cheonan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Jeju, starting with the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan. In Gwangju, the exhibition will highlight modern and contemporary history with the Taegeukgi as its central theme.

Key exhibits include the "Taegeukgi Woodblock," which was used for mass production of the Taegeukgi during the March 1st Movement; the "Bulwonbok Taegeukgi," inscribed by militia leader Go Gwangsoon with the phrase "National sovereignty will soon be restored"; and the "Kim Gu Signed Taegeukgi," bearing the handwritten signature of Kim Gu, the President of the Provisional Government of Korea. These items will be on display for the public.

Materials documenting the history of the independence movement in the Gwangju region will also be exhibited. For the first time, the exhibition will feature a paper Taegeukgi carried by students of Ewha Girls' High School during the Gwangju Student Independence Movement, as well as the "Joseon Independence Gwangju Newspaper" (donated by Mokpo Jeongmyeong Girls' Middle School), which details the Gwangju March 1st Movement.
