The Pungdeok-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, announced on the 8th that it held a residents' general meeting on the 5th at the Ecological Business Center, where over 350 local residents attended. During the meeting, the committee shared this year's project achievements and finalized next year's project plans.
This residents' general meeting served as a grassroots democracy event, where village agendas proposed and discovered directly by residents were decided through voting. It was also designed as an open forum for communication, allowing any resident to participate freely.
In particular, during the month of August, a total of 943 people participated in advance voting held at senior centers and other locations, meaning that over 14% of the village population actively shared their opinions. As a result, 16 community-focused projects, including the Rose Village branding project, were ultimately selected.
Kim Jongseon, Chairperson of the Residents' Autonomy Committee, stated, "This general meeting was both a festival and a forum for residents to participate directly. The various opinions gathered will serve as a catalyst for the development of Pungdeok-dong next year."
