KOSPI Ends Firmly Higher on Foreign and Institutional Buying... 3,220 Level in Sight

The KOSPI index is on the verge of reclaiming the 3,220 level, buoyed by simultaneous net purchases from both foreign and institutional investors.

On September 8, the KOSPI closed at 3,219.59, up 14.47 points (0.45%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, foreign investors and institutions recorded net purchases of 231.8 billion won and 77.7 billion won, respectively. In contrast, individual investors posted net sales of 385 billion won.


By sector, securities, non-metallic minerals, medical and precision equipment, and electricity and gas all rose by more than 2%. Construction and real estate also climbed by over 1%. On the other hand, food, beverages, and tobacco declined by 0.51%.


Among large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics ended at 70,100 won, up 600 won (0.86%) from the previous session. Hanwha Aerospace surged by 3.37%, and SK Hynix gained 1.28%. In contrast, Kia, KB Financial Group, Doosan Enerbility, and Hanwha Ocean all fell by more than 1%.


On the KOSPI, 543 stocks rose, including Hwaseung R&A, which hit the upper price limit. Without any stocks hitting the lower limit, 325 stocks declined, while 64 remained unchanged.


The KOSDAQ index finished at 818.60, up 7.20 points (0.89%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, individuals and foreign investors recorded net sales of 11.8 billion won and 34.9 billion won, respectively. In contrast, institutions posted net purchases of 50.6 billion won.


By sector, transportation equipment and parts, machinery and equipment, construction, metals, electrical and electronics, and chemicals all jumped by more than 1%. On the other hand, textiles and apparel, publishing and media reproduction, and other manufacturing sectors saw slight declines.


Among large-cap stocks, Alteogen closed at 478,000 won, up 2,500 won (0.53%) from the previous session. PharmaResearch soared by 7.14%, while Lino Industries, Classys, and Kolon TissueGene rose between 3% and 5%. In contrast, Peptron and HLB dropped by more than 4%, and ABL Bio fell by 2.62%.


On the KOSDAQ, 947 stocks advanced, including three stocks such as CP System and KD. Without any stocks hitting the lower limit, 670 stocks declined, while 64 remained unchanged.
