"Crossing the Line Again": Camper Vans Take Over Three Parking Spaces at Beach Lot

Camper Vans Take Up Three Spaces at Beach Parking Lot
Public Outrage Grows Over Inconsiderate Parking
Revised Parking Lot Act Enforced to Curb Excessive Camping

A photo showing a camper van parked without observing the parking lines at a beach parking lot in Pohang, Gyeongbuk has been released, sparking public outrage.

On September 7, a post titled "Live from Pohang Dogu Beach" was uploaded to an online community along with a photo. The author criticized, "This is a small beach that gets crowded on weekends, but they are taking up three marked parking spaces each," and added, "Unbelievable. Does owning a camper van make you special?"

The photo shows several camper vans parked horizontally, occupying multiple spaces in the parking lot near the beach. Regular vehicles are parked properly, providing a stark contrast. The beach is located right next to the parking lot, and it is presumed that the camper vans were parked this way so people could sleep in their vehicles while enjoying the sea view.

Online users who saw the post responded with comments such as, "Shouldn't there be a license required for camping?" "This should be reported," "They should pay triple the parking fee," and "Please, let's at least follow the basic rules."

To regulate excessive camping activities, a revised Parking Lot Act has been in effect since last year. The revised law prohibits camping or cooking in parking lots established by national agencies, local governments, public institutions, local corporations, and local public enterprises. Violators are fined 300,000 won for the first offense, 400,000 won for the second, and 500,000 won for the third or subsequent offenses.
