Rapid Response for Cardiovascular Emergencies in the Region

The Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center at Dongnam Regional Radiation Medicine Institute (Director Lee Changhun) has surpassed 200 cardiac and vascular procedures just four months after its opening.

Since opening in early June, the center has performed 204 procedures. Among these, coronary angiography was the most common with 136 cases, followed by 45 cases of coronary stent implantation. The center also conducted a significant number of balloon angioplasties, artificial pacemaker insertions, and cardioversion procedures.

Notably, the center demonstrated its expertise by successfully treating two cases of atrial septal defect, a congenital heart disease typically managed at university hospitals. Approximately 90% of all procedures were for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, underscoring the center's core role.

The center is equipped with specialized personnel and state-of-the-art equipment to provide rapid responses to emergency cardiovascular conditions such as myocardial infarction and angina, particularly in areas with a high elderly population like Gijang County in Busan and Seosaeng-myeon in Ulju County.

Kim Sungman, Head of Cardiology, said, "Since the opening, I have found it rewarding to provide patients with prompt and specialized treatment," adding, "We will continue to protect the health of local residents through tailored treatments and close collaborative care systems."
