"Reorganizing Governance... Strengthening Academic and Policy Foundations"
The Korea Data Law and Policy Association announced on September 8 that it had elected Seungwoo Son, advisor at Yulchon LLC, as its second president on September 4.

President Son is a leading domestic expert in the fields of intellectual property, artificial intelligence (AI), and data. He graduated from the Department of Law at Dankook University and earned his Doctor of Law degree from the University of Wisconsin. He has since gained extensive experience in both academia and policy, serving as a professor in the Department of Law at Dankook University, a professor in the Department of Industrial Security at Chung-Ang University, president of the Knowledge Jobs Forum, president of the Korea Intellectual Property Education and Research Association, vice president of the Federation of Intellectual Property Organizations, and president of the Korea Intellectual Property Research Institute.
President Son expressed his aspirations, stating, "I will seize the enormous changes brought by the AI era as an opportunity to reorganize the association's governance and activity systems, and to firmly establish academic and policy foundations that can encompass AI." He added, "I will do my utmost to expand the association's reach so that experts from various fields-including academia, government, business, and legal practice-can share their wisdom together, making the association a meaningful stepping stone for national and social development."
The Korea Data Law and Policy Association is an academic organization founded in 2019 to study the role of law, systems, and policy in revitalizing the data economy. In addition to academic researchers, government policymakers, law firm professionals, and industry experts participate, engaging in interdisciplinary research and exchange.
