Jeong Cheongrae Emphasizes In-Depth Discussions for Efficient Prosecution Reform
Focus on Labor Safety and Stronger Disaster Recovery Measures
Party Pledges Active Support for Occupational Safety Revisions
Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on September 7 regarding the prosecution reform bill, "Through coordination between the party, the government, and the presidential office, we will engage in in-depth discussions to produce the most efficient solution."
At the high-level party-government-presidential office consultative meeting held that day at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Jeong said, "Today, the government organization restructuring bill, which is a matter of nationwide interest, will be finalized," making these remarks.
He also addressed labor safety measures, saying, "Although three years have passed since the Serious Accidents Punishment Act was implemented, the number of fatalities from industrial accidents has not decreased significantly. To effectively reduce the number of industrial accident deaths, we need to significantly increase various forms of support focused on small businesses and vulnerable workers to prevent accidents."
He continued, "There must be clear sanctions for workplaces where accidents are repeated, and definite benefits should be promised to workplaces that excel in accident prevention. The party will actively support any measures that can help, including revising the Occupational Safety and Health Act."
Regarding disaster and calamity incidents, he added, "When I visited the sites, I heard local government heads talk about recovery efforts that go beyond simply restoring things to their original state. Now is the time when efforts for improved recovery, which reduce the causes and provide stronger prevention, are even more urgently needed."
