Over 200 Students in Training Join Water Supply Efforts

Korea Maritime and Ocean University urgently dispatched a training ship to supply drinking water to Gangneung City, Gangwon Province, where a national disaster has been declared.

On September 7, Korea Maritime and Ocean University announced that it had sent the Hannara, Asia's largest 9,196-ton training ship, to Gangneung Port to deliver 1,000 tons of drinking water, equivalent to the capacity of 300 fire trucks.

This support was provided to assist Gangneung residents who are facing a drinking water shortage due to the worst drought since weather observations began. More than 200 students who were on board the Hannara for training also directly participated in the water supply activities.

Ryu Donggeun, President of Korea Maritime and Ocean University, said, "I hope this provision of drinking water will be of some help to the suffering citizens of Gangneung." The university's alumni association also delivered financial support to Gangneung City.

The Hannara is a training ship for cultivating maritime officers and, in emergency situations, is also tasked with missions such as transportation, medical support, and relief activities.
