Bukgu District in Gwangju was the only autonomous district in Gwangju to receive the highest rating in the "2025 Regional Self-Sufficiency Center Performance Evaluation" organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
On the 7th, Bukgu District announced that two centers, Dongsin Regional Self-Sufficiency Center and Hope Regional Self-Sufficiency Center, were selected as top-performing institutions, while Ilteo Regional Self-Sufficiency Center was recognized as an excellent institution. This evaluation comprehensively reviewed the performance of self-sufficiency projects carried out by 228 regional self-sufficiency centers nationwide from 2023 to 2024, based on 16 indicators including operational performance and participant capacity building.
Bukgu District operated 67 self-sufficiency project groups centered around its three self-sufficiency centers, providing participants with a variety of job opportunities. As a result, the district received high marks for enhancing participants' self-sufficiency capabilities, revitalizing self-sufficiency enterprises, and demonstrating professional center management. In particular, Dongsin Regional Self-Sufficiency Center's "Pasongsong Mom's Hands Project," Hope Regional Self-Sufficiency Center's "Solomon's Table Project," and Ilteo Regional Self-Sufficiency Center's youth entrepreneurship support project "Design Narae" were praised as regionally specialized initiatives.
As a result of this evaluation, Bukgu District secured an incentive of approximately 60 million won and is also expected to receive additional operational funding for its self-sufficiency centers. Mayor Moon In stated, "This top rating is the result of the combined efforts of self-sufficiency workers and related organizations," and added, "We will continue to promote various support programs to help vulnerable groups achieve self-reliance."
