The government is holding an emergency response meeting regarding the incident in which U.S. authorities conducted an illegal immigration crackdown at a local construction site of a Korean company, resulting in the arrest of 475 individuals, including Korean nationals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that at 4:30 p.m. on September 6, 2025, a joint response meeting between the Headquarters for the Protection of Overseas Koreans and diplomatic missions will be held at the Government Complex Seoul.
The meeting will be attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun, First Vice Minister Park Yoonjoo, Second Vice Minister Kim Jina, and relevant directors of departments.
On September 4, 2025 (local time), U.S. immigration authorities conducted a large-scale crackdown on undocumented immigrants at the construction site of the Hyundai Motor Group-LG Energy Solution joint battery plant (HL-GA Battery Company) in Savannah, Georgia, arresting and detaining approximately 300 Koreans (the highest estimated number).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately expressed its "concern and regret" to the U.S. side, stating, "During the U.S. law enforcement process, the economic activities of our investors and the rights and interests of our nationals must not be unfairly infringed upon."
