Amendment Removes Ministry of Gender Equality and Family from Exclusion List for Sejong Relocation
All Eyes on National Assembly Vote for Passage of the Bill
National Assemblyman Kang Junhyun (Sejong-eul) sponsored an amendment to the "Special Act on the Construction of the Multifunctional Administrative City in Yeongi and Gongju Areas as a Follow-up Measure for the New Administrative Capital" (the Multifunctional Administrative City Act) on September 5, which would allow the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to be relocated to Sejong City.
According to Assemblyman Kang, this bill aims to convert the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family-previously excluded from relocation-into a target for the move to Sejong City. The purpose is to restore the original intent of constructing the Multifunctional Administrative City and to institutionally support balanced national development and administrative efficiency.
Assemblyman Kang stated, "Relocating the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to Sejong is the final stage of the administrative capital policy that realizes balanced national development and administrative efficiency. Now is the time to complete this unfinished task." He added, "As a key ministry that comprehensively promotes gender equality, youth, and family policies, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family must collaborate closely with other central ministries. Relocation to Sejong will solidify an inter-ministerial policy implementation system at the government-wide level."
If this amendment passes, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will be relocated to Sejong City, establishing an institutional foundation for close cooperation with other ministries. This is expected to become a significant turning point for achieving both administrative efficiency and balanced national development.
Assemblyman Kang emphasized, "Amending the Multifunctional Administrative City Act will complete the future administrative system of the Republic of Korea and realize the regional balanced development demanded by the public. As discussions on government reorganization are currently underway under the new administration, I will ensure that the relocation of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family proceeds without missing this opportunity."
