Even IT YouTubers Are Impressed
5,000 Won Speaker Mistaken for "MacBook" Sound Quality
Breaking the long-held stereotype of "you get what you pay for," electronic products from the household goods retailer Daiso are gaining attention for their quality that goes beyond just being affordable. In particular, the 5,000 won speaker is being praised online as "insanely cost-effective" for its performance that rivals much more expensive products.
Even IT YouTubers Are Impressed... The 5,000 Won Speaker Confused With MacBook Sound Quality
A video from the IT YouTube channel "The Edit," which has 550,000 subscribers, recently became a hot topic. Editor H connected the 5,000 won Daiso wired speaker to an Apple MacBook and tested its sound. Amazed by the sound coming from the speaker, he remarked, "Why have I been using such expensive speakers all this time?"
He was so surprised by the excellent sound quality that he even mistook the sound for coming from both the MacBook and the Daiso speaker at the same time. The production team confirmed that the sound was coming only from the Daiso speaker, but the fact that he confused the sound quality of the Daiso speaker with that of the MacBook, which is known for its high-quality audio, became a sensation in itself.
Editor H noted that while the sound does become muddled at higher volumes, the sense of space provided by the two-channel speaker is excellent for its price. After the video was released, online users responded positively, saying, "Of course it's good-it's made by Inkel, a company with a long history in audio equipment."
The interest in Daiso speakers is also reflected in actual data. According to Google Trends, searches for "Daiso speaker" reached a record high of 100 in July, the highest since statistics began, and maintained a high level of 91 in August. This is seen as a result of consumers seeking cost-effective options flocking to Daiso amid rising prices.
This phenomenon is not limited to speakers. Recently, a 5,000 won Daiso coffee dripper beat out famous brand products to take first place in a blind test, becoming a hot topic as well.
Anstar, a YouTuber and co-founder of the coffee brand Unspecialty, conducted an experiment comparing the 5,000 won Daiso dripper with a Hario dripper priced in the 30,000 won range. The results were shocking. In the blind tasting, Anstar chose the coffee brewed with the Daiso dripper as "the most delicious coffee," exclaiming, "These guys are crazy."
