All-Out Effort to Achieve the 12.5 Billion Won Collection Target
Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on September 5 that it will launch a special collection campaign for overdue local taxes and non-tax revenues from September through November 2025.
During this special collection period, the city plans to collect a total of 12.5 billion won, including 10 billion won in local taxes and 2.5 billion won in non-tax revenues, and will focus its administrative resources on exceeding this target.
Starting this month, the city will encourage voluntary payments from all delinquent taxpayers by sending out overdue payment notices and mobile electronic notifications (via KakaoTalk alert messages), as well as distributing notices about the special collection period.
Additionally, the city will diversify seizure actions for assets such as real estate, vehicles, bank deposits, and salaries in order to secure claims quickly, and will implement a "one-on-one responsible collection system" for those with overdue amounts of 1 million won or more.
For small business owners and low-income residents who have fallen behind on payments due to economic hardship, the city will apply customized collection methods such as installment payments and suspension of collection actions, and will support their self-reliance by linking them to social welfare programs.
For high-value or habitual delinquents, administrative sanctions such as travel bans, public disclosure of names, and provision of delinquency information to credit agencies will be imposed.
For those with overdue automobile taxes or automobile-related fines, the city will respond by having the mobile collection team continuously seize license plates, conducting nighttime license plate seizures in cooperation with all towns and districts, and disposing of vehicles through public auctions.
A city official stated, "Local taxes and non-tax revenues are essential resources for regional development," adding, "We will do our utmost to exceed the collection target during the special collection period by mobilizing all available capabilities."
