Jeonnam Province and Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, have signed a mutual friendship and exchange cooperation agreement, committing to practical exchanges in various fields such as agriculture and tourism.

Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, who is currently visiting Mongolia, signed the friendship and exchange cooperation agreement at Ulaanbaatar City Hall on the 5th (local time), with around 20 officials from both regions, including Vice Mayor Amar Tubshin Amgalanbatar, in attendance.

The two regions agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade and industry, agriculture and livestock, education and youth exchange, as well as culture and tourism.

This agreement is expected to serve as a stepping stone for Jeonnam to advance Asian cooperation and to expand the region's brand globally.

Ulaanbaatar is the political, economic, and cultural center of Mongolia, with 1.7 million people-nearly half of the country’s total population of 3.5 million-residing there. It is Mongolia’s largest city, accounting for more than half of the nation's industrial production.

The tourism sector stands out as a key area. Jeonnam plans to leverage its unique tourism resources, such as the sea, islands, and tidal flats-which are not easily experienced in Mongolia-to strengthen partnerships with local travel agencies and attract more tourists through differentiated tourism products.

In addition, since both regions face the common challenge of the climate crisis, they have agreed to enhance cooperation in the environment and energy sectors.

Mongolia, with its abundant renewable energy resources such as solar and wind power, and Jeonnam, which is strategically fostering the renewable energy industry, plan to seek new opportunities through joint research and industrial cooperation in clean energy.

Governor Kim Youngrok stated, "This agreement marks the starting point for Jeonnam and Ulaanbaatar to achieve tangible results together," adding, "Through exchanges encompassing culture, tourism, economy, and the environment, we will create benefits that residents of both regions can truly feel."
