Uiryeong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on September 5 that the Jeongam District has been finally selected for the "2025 Urban Regeneration Our Neighborhood Revitalization Contest," organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
With this selection, Uiryeong County has secured a total project budget of 9.1 billion won, including 5 billion won in national funding, to be invested in the Jeongam District of Uiryeong-eup, the project site. The county will fully implement the urban regeneration project over four years, from 2026 to 2029.

The Our Neighborhood Revitalization project aims to improve deteriorated residential environments in small-scale residential areas that have lost vitality due to population outflow and aging buildings by providing public facilities closely linked to daily life. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport conducted evaluations from April to July this year and finally selected 10 locations nationwide, including Uiryeong County.
Since 2023, the county has established an urban regeneration preliminary project base in the Jeongam District of Uiryeong-eup, the target area, to strengthen residents' capabilities and has actively gathered residents' opinions through regular meetings. In addition, Uiryeong County has systematically planned the project by organizing expert consultations and building various cooperation systems with the county council and the local community.
Jeongam Village serves as the gateway to Uiryeong and is home to Sotbawi, also known as "Buja Rock," which attracts many visitors from across the country.
Through this contest selection, Uiryeong County plans to promote five detailed projects centered on three main goals: creating a safe residential environment, establishing living infrastructure, and providing healthy human care. The main projects include: ▲improving aging alleyways ▲supporting repairs for old houses ▲establishing the Jeongam Starlight Community Platform ▲expanding the Ibaku Rest Area ▲and hosting unique festivals exclusive to Jeongam Village.
County Governor Oh Taewan stated, "The Jeongam District urban regeneration project is not just about improving physical spaces, but about revitalizing people and the village. We will do our utmost to ensure that Jeongam Village, known for Sotbawi, becomes a place where tourists do more than just pass through, and where residents can directly experience improved living conditions and the village can be reborn with new vitality."
Meanwhile, with the selection of the Jeongam District Our Neighborhood Revitalization Urban Regeneration Project, Uiryeong County will now be promoting urban regeneration projects in four locations-the most among counties in the province. In 2021, the Our Neighborhood Revitalization Projects for Sangdong District and the Recognized Project for Jungdong District were selected, followed by the selection of the Jungdong District Local Specialization Urban Regeneration Project in 2023, all of which are currently being implemented.
