Gwangju Police to Strengthen Security for World Archery Championships

The 1st Mobile Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency will fully mobilize all its personnel to carry out security operations for the successful hosting of the World Archery Championships, which will be held from September 5 to 12, and to ensure the safety of both participating athletes and citizens.

This year’s event will see the participation of 731 athletes from 76 countries. The competitions will take place at the May 18 Democracy Square (finals), Gwangju International Archery Center (preliminaries and main rounds), and Gwangju World Cup Stadium (practice venue). The athletes will be accommodated across seven hotels in Dong-gu and Seo-gu, and a large number of domestic and international spectators are also expected to visit during the tournament.


The 1st Mobile Unit will go beyond simple security duties, carrying out policing activities across all areas, including competition venues, accommodations, and traffic management. Through these efforts, the police aim to prevent crime and alleviate public anxiety, thereby providing reassurance as a “police force always by your side.”


An official from the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency stated, “We are focusing all our capabilities on this international event, which is drawing global attention. We will do our utmost to create an environment where both athletes and citizens can feel safe, so that Gwangju will be remembered as a secure city.” The official added, “As this is an opportunity for Gwangju to be in the global spotlight, we also hope that citizens will observe basic order and demonstrate mature civic awareness.”
