Namwon City in North Jeolla Province will hold the 19th Korean Traditional Music Grand Ritual at 11 a.m. on the 11th at the Sacred Site of Korean Traditional Music (Akseongsa).

According to the city on the 5th, this event was organized to honor the roots of Korean traditional music and to promote the value of traditional culture.

Namwon is widely recognized as the birthplace of the Dongpyeonje style of pansori and the main stage for Chunhyangga and Heungboga. It has produced legendary figures such as Song Heungrok, Park Chowol, and the greatest contemporary pansori singer Ahn Sookseon, solidifying its reputation as a true home of Korean traditional music.

In particular, the Unbong area, where the grand ritual will be held, is a historic site where Ok Bogo devoted over 50 years to researching the geomungo, laying the foundation for Korean traditional music. This location reaffirms Namwon's status as an undisputed sacred place for Korean traditional music.

This year's Korean Traditional Music Grand Ritual will proceed in a solemn atmosphere, beginning with the purification dance by the Namwon City Korean Traditional Music Orchestra, followed by ritual offerings by each official, performances by master singers and musicians, and a visit to the musicians' memorial site.

Mayor Choi Kyungsik stated, "Through this grand ritual, we aim to reestablish Namwon's status as the root of traditional sound and a living sanctuary for Korean traditional music, and to lay the foundation for inheriting and developing the traditions of national music and the spirit of Korean musicians."
