Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province (Governor Lee Namcheol) received the Excellence Award in the Daeseo variety category at the Garlic Variety Quality Evaluation held during the "1st Korea Garlic Industry Expo 2025," which took place from August 25 to 27 at Yeongcheon Gymnasium in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province.

This expo was the first garlic industry-focused exhibition ever held in Korea, providing a venue for direct interaction between producers and consumers through exhibitions and evaluations of major garlic varieties from across the country, as well as participatory programs.

The quality evaluation compared and assessed the excellence of major domestic garlic varieties in three categories-Hanji, Namdo, and Daeseo-through expert evaluations and citizen voting.

The Goryeong County Agricultural Technology Center submitted first-generation tissue-cultured garlic, which was produced by extracting and cultivating growth points during the garlic clove differentiation period. The center was recognized for its excellent quality and won the Excellence Award in the Daeseo category.

Governor Lee Namcheol stated, "Winning the Excellence Award at the national garlic quality evaluation is a great achievement that highlights the superiority of Goryeong garlic. Going forward, we will actively work to supply high-quality seed garlic, which is the foundation for enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products and increasing farmers' income."

In July, the county purchased and distributed "first-generation Jua seed garlic for the 2025 season" through the Goryeong County Agricultural Products Distribution Center. By supplying about 95 tons of Jua seed garlic-which is resistant to diseases, pests, and continuous cropping damage-to 101 farms, the county contributed to the stabilization of farm management.
