Held for 10 Days Under the Theme
"Literature! Blooming as Buckwheat Flowers, Life! Soaking in Moonlight"
The 2025 Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival will be held from September 5 to 14 under the theme "Literature! Blooming as Buckwheat Flowers, Life! Soaking in Moonlight" in the Hyoseok Cultural Village area of Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang County.
The Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival is designated as a cultural tourism festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It takes place in the setting of Lee Hyo-seok's renowned work "When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom," allowing visitors to stroll through fields of white buckwheat flowers reminiscent of scenes from the novel, and to enjoy literature, nature, local cuisine, and healing experiences all at once.
The 2025 festival venue will be divided into three zones: the Cultural Arts Zone, the Festival Zone, and the Healing Zone.
Cultural Arts Zone (Zone 1): Visitors can enjoy a variety of experiences and performances, including literary walks with guides, the "100 Ri Road with Song Ilbong" program, a Hanji craft exhibition, an art exhibition by artist Park Gijeong (Chagang), busking, the Buckwheat Flower Train, donkey rides, the "Find the Golden Buckwheat" event, and a DJ music journey.
Festival Zone (Zone 2): This area will feature the opening and closing ceremonies, the Lee Hyo-seok Literary Award ceremony, the Hyoseok National Writing Contest, the Hyoseok Drawing Contest, performance programs, a traditional food village, a local specialty promotion fair, a night market, traditional lantern lighting, a stamp tour, and other events that blend literature and tradition.
Healing Zone (Zone 3): The Healing Zone will offer relaxation programs for the whole family, such as water, fire, and star gazing experiences, traditional bridge crossing activities, a kids' zone (including a mini zoo), nighttime landscape lighting, busking, and corn roasting experiences.
This year, a new bookstore and community space called "Byeolbit Maru" has been established in Zone 2. This space will serve as a multi-purpose cultural and arts venue, featuring an art exhibition by Park Gijeong (Chagang), an exhibition of literary award-winning works, a rooftop observatory, and busking performances.
During the festival, visitors can also trace the literary footsteps of Lee Hyo-seok at the Lee Hyo-seok Literature Museum and Hyoseok Moonlight Hill, and sample a variety of buckwheat dishes such as buckwheat noodles, buckwheat pancakes, and buchigi.
