Free Rubella Antibody Testing and Vaccination
for Newlywed and Prospective Brides
at Public Health Centers
Wanju County in North Jeolla Province is launching a support program for rubella antibody testing and vaccination for newlywed (prospective) women to promote healthy and safe pregnancies.
According to the county on September 5, rubella is an acute viral disease accompanied by fever, rash, and lymphadenitis. Prevention is especially important because if a pregnant woman is infected during early pregnancy, it can cause congenital rubella syndrome in the fetus, leading to heart defects, hearing loss, and cataracts.

This program targets newlywed (prospective) women in the county who are preparing for pregnancy. They can receive free rubella antibody tests (IgM, IgG) at the public health center. If the test results show no antibodies, one dose of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine will be provided free of charge.
To apply, applicants must visit the public health center with identification, a resident registration certificate issued within the past month, a certificate of marriage relationship, and, for those planning to marry, a wedding invitation or a wedding venue contract. The results of the rubella antibody test can be checked online through the 'Public Health Portal e-Health Center.'
Yoo Misuk, head of the Health Management Division, stated, "Preparing for a healthy childbirth among newlyweds directly contributes to the happiness of the local community," and encouraged active participation, adding, "By completing rubella vaccination before pregnancy, both children and families can be protected from infectious diseases."
