Large-Scale Operation of Cruise Experience Group
for 200 Gangwon Residents
The Gangwon Tourism Foundation (CEO Choi Sunghyun), Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and Sokcho City announced on September 5 that they will operate a cruise experience group for 200 residents of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province aboard the large Italian-flagged cruise ship Costa Serena, which will depart from Sokcho Port as its home port from September 6 to September 12.
This experience program was organized to expand local residents' interest and participation in the Sokcho Port cruise industry and to promote and raise awareness of Gangwon's cruise industry. During the public recruitment held in June, a total of 1,880 people (940 teams) applied, resulting in a high competition rate of 9.4 to 1. Through a random draw, 100 residents of Gangwon Province and 100 residents of Sokcho City were selected as the final participants.
The selected participants will embark on a 7-day, 6-night itinerary, departing from Sokcho Port and calling at Muroran, Kushiro, and Hakodate in Japan before arriving at Busan Port. During the voyage, various onboard events, including a gathering for the experience group, will be held.
In addition, a promotional event for the "2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years" will be held for all passengers and crew aboard the Costa Serena, which carries approximately 2,500 people. The event will introduce a variety of tourist attractions in Gangwon Province and actively promote the goal of attracting 200 million visitors to the region.
Choi Sunghyun, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, stated, "Through this cruise experience group for residents of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, local residents will have the opportunity to experience a cruise firsthand, which will enhance their understanding and interest in the Sokcho Port cruise industry. We will continue to do our utmost to establish Gangwon as the central hub for cruise tourism in the Pan-East Sea region."
